America’s Grim Reaper: Coronavirus or President Trump

Right from the very start — we all new he was different. Here in Canada we giggled in amusement as we watched this former reality show host babble nonsense during his unlikely Presidential campaign. Then, mouths hanging open, we were stunned when he actually won. Boy they must really hate Hilary Clinton we said, to elect that guy as President!

After all, we’d all seen his egotistical chest-beating many times before. In old interviews when he billed himself as an international multi-millionaire tycoon. Constantly craving attention and seeking public admiration, you’d have to be blind not to see what kind of man this was. Yet today, he is President of the United States?

A CANADIAN PERSPECTIVE

PRESIDENT TRUMP

Okay, we thought, he will be surrounded with experienced advisers who will guide him through his years of office. Everything will be fine. Now that he’s President in command of a powerful Nation, you’d think he’d step lightly not wanting to make any serious mistakes? Boy were we wrong!

Emboldened by his Presidency, Trump now found himself in the ultimate spotlight. His already inflamed ego soared as did his delusions of being — smarter than most, a leader among men, and could make America great again by imposing his ideals and changing — well, most everything!

While Trump’s Narcissism was easily observable, its his utter disdain for being challenged or corrected in public that may define his presidency. When caught in a falsehood, exaggeration or even in one of his many well documented lies, he’s never, has never, admitted doing so. Instead he would either double-down with another lie in protection or lash out at those accusing him.

Anybody who disagreed with his plans, he publicly chastised, bad-mouthed and in a lot of cases made up lies to disgrace them. If that didn’t bring them online — he fired and replaced them. Soon few opposed him in fear of loosing their cushy well-paying jobs.

Now he was free to start imposing his will with little resistance. The world quickly finding out how far this man’s delusional self-importance would effect them. He began pursuing his Ideology of Nationalism with Trade Wars, invoking huge tariffs.

Unprecedented Immigration reform, at times provoking warnings from the U.N. when he separated mother from child while jailing families crossing his borders. The building of the Mexican border wall. His biased claims that Immigrants were the cause of all evil in America.

He advertised himself as the worlds greatest negotiator. Yet in Russia, during a world live televised feed, he publicly absolved Putin and Russia’s involvement in the political online influence scandal. This publicly denouncing the massive verified data stating differently by his own countries intelligence making them appear weak, misrepresented and error prone in front of the whole world.

His meetings with Kim Jong-un of North Korea proved even more useless, even embarrassing, as he stated friendship and great understandings with one of the worlds most threatening dictator and human rights abuser of all time. Trump once threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea — Now, they are mostly forgotten.

There is More! A lot more as we all know. And any one of these incidents or in combination could of, or still might, lead to Americas slow demise on the world stage. As Canadians, we worried about the effects on our country being so economically linked to our close neighbor.

Donald Trump it seems, was the Grim Reaper, set to unbalance the world as we knew it.

PANDEMIC

Then the Coronavirus Pandemic started sweeping across the planet. Horrific scenes from abroad shown nightly on our news. In Canada, the government in collusion with its top scientists and medical experts started planning for the inevitable upcoming fight.

Meanwhile in America, the Trump Government was at a loss. You see science and Donald Trump didn’t get along. Science in a lot of cases contradicted Trump’s “fly by the seat of your pants” rhetoric. And thus clashed with his political agenda. So he muted them! Then, like all the others who wouldn’t blindly follow his ideals — he replaced them with lesser people who would.

Under Trumps reign, scientific expertise has all but been eliminated. Even the pandemic-preparedness office that was part of the National Security Council was dissolved in 2018 by Trump himself. — And now a super-virus Pandemic was knocking at his door.

Yet Donald Trump wasn’t overly concerned. He was too busy — poo-pooing the seriousness of the pandemic away.

“It’s a little bit like the flu that we have flu shots for. And we’ll essentially have a flu shot for this in a fairly quick manner.” he says.

“You know the flu in our country kills from 25,000 people to 69,000 people a year. And so far, if you look at what we have with the 15 people, and they’re recovering, one is pretty sick but hopefully will recover. But the others are in great shape.”

“It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear. And from our shores, we — you know, it could get worse before it gets better. It could maybe go away. We’ll see what happens. Nobody really knows. The fact is, the greatest experts — I’ve spoken to them all. Nobody really knows.”

Trump says on March 10, “It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”

While the rest of the world was colluding, learning from the mistakes of the hardest hit Nations in preparedness — Donald Trump did little in the face of the advancing Pandemic. He was more concerned about his countries economy (his political strong-point) than possible infected counts, deaths, medical supply shortages that the US Health Experts and State Governors were publicly warning about.

IN AMERICA TODAY

As of March 28, 2020

There are over 104,000 infected US citizens.

Over 1,740 deaths (so far) linked to the virus.

America has quickly become one of the epicenters for the coronavirus pandemic. The United States has now become the country with the most Covid-19 cases in the world — overtaking China and Italy.

Currently, New Yorker’s are dying a rate of one person every 17 minutes. This is confirmed by citywide statistics showing the latest grim report.

There are more than 44,000 cases statewide in New York, the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 passed 6,000 on Friday (27th), double what it had been three days earlier. At New York City-area hospitals on the front-line of the outbreak, workers are increasingly concerned about the ravages of the illness in their rank and of the lack of testing and protective gear.

The common complaint being — “We could have secured enough personal protective equipment months ago. After all, It was happening in China since December!

US Health Experts…

America under Donald Trump’s leadership, has mishandled the COVID-19 crisis to a substantially worse degree than what every health expert I’ve spoken with had feared. “Much worse,” said Ron Klain, who coordinated the U.S. response to the West African Ebola outbreak in 2014. “Beyond any expectations we had,” said Lauren Sauer, who works on disaster preparedness at Johns Hopkins Medicine. “As an American, I’m horrified,” said Seth Berkley, who heads Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. “The U.S. may end up with the worst outbreak in the industrialized world.”

WE KNEW TRUMP WAS DIFFERENT BUT…

A lot of us (out of country) predicted a down-turn in America’s world standings when Donald Trump started wielding his self-imposed ideologies on the world. But nobody saw this Pandemic coming. Or how an unprepared delusional and unlikely US President would become America’s Grimm Reaper in the face of A Pandemic crisis.

The Question now IS?

How many Americans will have to die — because Donald Trump just happens to be their President.

  1. Good ultimate question. How many will die because of him. As of today, April 6th, the count has jumped in the US to 362,759 infected with 10,689 deaths. And we know the numbers are low because of inadequate testing

    1. I no its hard to lay blame when everybody has been somewhat caught off guard by the ferocious appetite of this pandemic. But all you have to do is search back at the things Trump has said and how misleading in the eyes of the public those statements were. And to continue playing politics, thumping his chest and playing the blame game, while under his leadership more US citizens will end up dying than all the wars combined — is incomprehensible! Perhaps, for a President, even criminal!
